bagg theatre is a London-based producing theatre company that brings together literary theatrical tradition with the best of contemporary theatre practice.
Our goals are straightforward:
We want to tackle big questions through theatre, the simplest and toughest being:
"How should we live?"
So we seek out plays that explore (however obliquely) the question of how to be good in a bad world. Then we produce them.
This approach leads to eclectic programming. A play we like that intrigues us could be contemporary American; French avant-garde; home-grown Shakespeare; a brand-new adaptation from an obscure literary novel or a much-loved children's book. We don't mind, as long as the play has the potential to engage the brain and heart.
Our plays are often, but not always, comedies. Sometimes they are for grown-ups and sometimes they are for children. We perform in theatres but also in schools and keep our eye on other performance spaces too.
Whatever the play, we want to make you smile and make you think - not necessarily in
that order.
